FBI, police investigate armed bank robbery

San Marcos Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating the armed robbery of American National Bank at 2202 Hunter Road in San Marcos that occurred around 9:51 a.m. Monday, July 7.

A white male suspect entered the bank displaying a handgun and demanding cash, according to Police Commander Terry Nichols. The suspect forced the bank employees into a restroom before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money. No bank employees were injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 40-45, approximately 5’10” tall, heavy set with a thick, grey colored beard.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue denim jacket, yellow gloves and a tan colored, large brim straw hat. The suspect fled the bank in a late model, dark grey passenger vehicle traveling south on Hunter Road.

The suspect is believed to be the same man who has robbed at least 14 banks along the Interstate 35 corridor since 2004, Nichols said.

The most recent robbery occurred in Marquez , Texas on May 14, 2008. Wells Fargo Bank is offering up to a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the Marquez robbery.

The San Marcos Police Department is working with the FBI Austin Office on the ongoing investigation.
