Sowards awarded Lion of the Year

Debra Sowards has been awarded the Lion of the Year by the San Marcos Bluebonnet Lions Club in recognition of her commitment to Lionism. Sowards has been a Bluebonnet Lions Club member since 2004 and prior a member of the San Marcos Lioness Club.

Sowards is currently serving as the Club President. “It is very rewarding to help fulfill community needs, and it is a great honor to be presented with this award”

Being part of the world’s largest service organization, Lions Clubs International, the Bluebonnets are able to serve the needs of those less fortunate within San Marcos as well as globally. Some projects include promoting sight preservation through eyeglass recycling, assisting with providing eyeglasses to school children in need, and encouraging Diabetes awareness as this is a leading cause of blindness.
