Naturescapes deadline approaches

Spring is past and the deadline for entering the Naturescapes photo contest is fast approaching. The fourth annual contest and exhibition is co-sponsored by the Hill Country Photography Club (hcphotoclub.org) and the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance (smgreenbelt.org).

The July 21st deadline includes photos taken during the past two years in any natural area of Hays County. A complete listing of the rules and previous years’ winners can be found at smgreenbelt.org. A map of the San Marcos greenbelt and parks can be found at www.smgreenbelt.org/NewParksMapAug07.pdf.

A $200 prize is awarded for Best in Show and up to four $100 Awards of Excellence are presented to the next most outstanding photographs. Additional Awards of Merit may be presented by the contest juror.

Judging the contest for the sponsoring organizations is Laurence Parent, author of 36 books including the large format photography book, “New Mexico Wild and Beautiful.” His credits include photographs in National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Outside, Backpacker, Sierra, National Parks, Texas Highways and Texas Parks & Wildlife.

The winners will be announced Friday, September 5th at an awards reception from 5 – 7 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center. The photographs accepted for the Naturescapes exhibition will be on display at the Walkers Gallery in the Activity Center from September 5th through October 31st.
