In the city of San Marcos channel: Juneteenth proclamation

Mayor Susan Narvaiz proclaims June 19-21 as “Juneteenth Weekend” in San Marcos in celebration of the holiday that commemorates the freeing of Texas slaves announced on June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln.  Pageants,  cook-offs, a parade,  celebrity cake auction, games, tournaments, car show, music and other festivities are sponsored by the Dunbar Heritage Association, Juneteenth Cake Auction Committee,  and  Juneteenth Charity Cook-Off Committee at Dunbar Park (Thursday) and City Park (Friday and Saturday).
