San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce Hosts Rotating Art Show

The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce in a cooperative effort with the San Marcos Art League is displaying artworks for public viewing in their offices at 202 N. CM Allen Parkway. Each month a member of the San Marcos Art League will display their paintings on the walls of the Chamber office; many of the pieces are available for sale. The artwork will be available for viewing during Chamber business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.Phyllis Snodgrass, Chamber President, said, “We are thrilled to be able to share the talents of our area art community with the many visitors to our office and encourage people to stop in periodically and check out the artwork.” Snodgrass went on to say, “The presence of artwork in public places encourages economic development, since companies and workers consider quality of life – including the arts – an important factor when deciding whether to relocate to or remain in a community.” The Chamber is helping to increase the presence of artwork in the community by promoting local artists.

“Our members have exhibited their works at art shows, galleries, and in public displays in local businesses, and we are thrilled that we are given the opportunity to display our works in the Chamber,” said Veronique Zehnder-Hahn, San Marcos Art League Chair.

The San Marcos Art League’s mission is to encourage the production, display, and enjoyment of art in its many forms by members of the League and the public generally. They sponsor art shows and exhibits, schedule lectures and demonstrations by visiting artists, and generally make knowledge of art available to the public free of charge. They have awarded scholarships to promising young artists, both at the high school and college level.
