A Fire of Passion Begins with a Spark of Change

I was taught from an early age that whenever I do something, do it with passion. Passion is a deep desire or extreme excitement for something. When passion is lacking we tend to fall into a rut. God wants more for us than a routine life. He wants us to live life to the full! (John 10:10)Recently, Amanda (my wife) and I were chatting about what we want our lives to be like in the future. When we got down to it, we both wanted to live a life of adventure. Perhaps traveling to other countries and doing exciting things. As we shared this goal with one another a sad reality hit me, if it was a life of adventure we wanted in our future, we weren’t headed there with the way we were currently living our lives.

We should live everyday with the intent of reaching our dreams. However, my habit of coming home from work, napping and then watching television, was hardly pointing me to my life of adventure. It was actually pointing me in the opposite direction.

If we want to live a life of passion then sometimes a little spark is needed. “A fire of passion begins with a spark of change.” Instead of coming home and sitting in front of the television, we now try to get out and do something different. Amanda has recently enrolled in a fitness boot camp and I have renewed my fishing license and hit the San Marcos River in the evenings when I can. It is different than what we were used to but it is pointing us toward our goal. It may even cost a little money and time but if we are headed toward our goals then it is well worth it.

Maybe you find yourself in a similar rut and feel your life has just lost passion. “A fire of passion begins with a spark of change.” If you want something new and fresh in your life, make a simple change to your routine. Find a goal and live everyday as a step in that direction. God wants you to have a passion for the dreams he put in your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
