Third graders in the gifted and talented program at De Zavala Elementary School recently completed a unit of the curriculum that dealt with public service. As a special project, they contacted the San Marcos Animal Shelter to see what the facility needed. Then the students made posters setting forth the needs, and posted them all around the campus.
“Students of this age really love animals and this is a wonderful way for them to experience community service,” said Carol Fernandez, the school’s gifted and talented sponsor.
