The Associated Student Government will welcome its new officers on June 1. Out with the old and in with the new sometimes leaves confusion around what will take place in the year to come.
Student body president-elect Brett Baker has a lot planned for the 2008-2009 school year, most of which includes student empowerment.
“Our number one goal is looking out for student interests,” said Baker.
One way his administration plans on making an impact on students in through the University Seminar classes. Many new students arriving on campus have questions they need answered, but are afraid to ask a teacher. Baker said going into the seminar classes is a perfect way to get students involved on campus.
Another important instrument that will be used in the coming year is the relationship with the university administration and faculty. Consistency and perseverance will be used to achieve goals with the Bobcat football team and the Athletic Department.
Baker said the legislative session beginning in 2009 will bring an opportunity for the university, but he is not that experienced in dealing with the legislature. He said he plans on meeting with elected officials to set goals for the university.
