Kliesing tosses no-hitter, Aggies hit four homers
COLLEGE STATION – Four Texas A&M home runs and Rhiannon Kliesing’s first career no-hitter handed the Texas State softball team an 11-0, five inning loss to the No. 5 Aggies on Wednesday.
Texas State (30-16) fell behind 3-0 in the first when Jamie Hinshaw hit a three-run homer to right field after an error and walk. An inning later the deficit grew with two more homers, first on Macie Morrow’s two-run homer that made it 5-0. Holly Ridley also homered, extending Texas A&M’s lead to 8-0.
The Bobcat offense tried to battle back in the top of the third when Jenna Emery and Ashton Peters each drew walks to start the inning, but Kliesing struck out the next three hitters to preserve the 8-0 lead.
Kliesing (12-4) helped her own cause in the fourth, sending a three-run homer to left to cap the scoring for her first career home run. In the fifth she retired the side in order, completing her first no-hitter. She finished the game with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings.
Ragan Blake (15-10) took the loss after allowing five earned runs in 1.1 innings on four hits and a walk. Elizabeth Dennis pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The Bobcats return home for their final regular season series at Bobcat Field April 26-27 against Sam Houston State.
