The Texas State Women’s Golf Team will enter the final round of the Southland Conference Championships atop the leaderboard after the Bobcats ended the second round with a team score of 600 on the par 71-6069-yard course at the Beaumont Country Club Tuesday.
Texas State freshman Lynn Gustafsson leads the individual standings with a 36-hole score of 143 (+1) after she shot a 1-over-par 72 in Tuesday’s second round. Gustafsson was the only golfer in the field to shoot an even-par score in either of the first two rounds as she ended the first day at even par.
Gustafsson is leading the tournament by five strokes over four golfers, which include her freshman teammate Sehee Kim. Kim, Laura Baker of UTSA, Nicole Forshner of Central Arkansas and Lacy McKinley of McNeese State are all tied at 148. Kim shot a 2-over-par 73 in the second round after beginning the first tournament with a score of 75. Baker and Forshner both fired a 3-over-par 74 in each of the first two rounds, while McKinley shot a 76 on Tuesday after beginning the second round one shot in back of Gustafsson with a 1-over-par 72 on Monday.
Lamar’s Hillary Zeigler is in sixth place with a 7-over-par two-day total of 149, while Linda Persson of Lamar and Sam Houston State teammates Jennifer Heinze and Landa Stewart are tied for seventh place at 151. Lamar’s Theresa Nilsson rounds out the Top 10 individuals at 152.
Texas State’s Trine Mortensen is tied with Wendy Joyner of Sam Houston State and Ashley Watkins of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with two-day totals of 153 (11-over-par).
Christine Brijalba and Caitlin Bliss round out Texas State’s scoring with two-round totals of 156 and 159, respectively. Brijalba has fired a 7-over-par 78 in each of the first two rounds, while Bliss had an 8-over-par 79 after shooting an 80 in the first round.
The Bobcats are four shots ahead of the Lamar in the team standings after the Cardinals ended the second day with a team score of 604 on their home course. Sam Houston State is in third place with a score of 608, while UTSA and Central Arkansas are tied for fourth place with team scores of 616.
The tournament concludes on Wednesday morning with Nicholls State and UTSA scheduled to tee off at 8:00 a.m. Texas State is scheduled to begin its final round at 9:30 a.m.
