The 2nd Annual Earthday Celebration took place Sunday from 1:00 PM to 6PM at the Aquarena Center. Despite overcast skies, throngs of people attended, enjoyed the wide range of music, participated in demonstrations and activities, and shared information on everything from environmental sustainability to outdoor opportunities.
Dozens of educational booths were manned by organizations as diverse as the Guadalupe Blanco Authority, Hays County Master Gardeners, Sustainable San Marcos, Texas Stream Team, Timberland, Half Price Books, San Marcos Water/Wastewater and Electric Utility and Texas State Bike Cave. More than thirty groups shared information in total.
Free glass bottom boat rides were given to people bringing recyclable items. Guided kayaking, SCUBA diving, a climbing wall, and a hike through the greenspace area were among the choices available to those who wanted some hands-on events.
Throughout the day, a series of performers provided background music and entertainment for the fans all over the Aquarena Center grounds. United States Congressman, Lloyd Doggett was scheduled to speak, but reportedly broke his leg in a bicycling accident and was unable to attend.

Very enjoyable afternoon. Kudos to Mary Waters and team for putting it all together! Everybody had a great time. Lots of educational information, fun activities for the whole family, food, entertainment, dignitaries and festivities.
Can anyone tell me the name and/or email address for the woman selling those great fish wind socks and other recycled material art?
Liz – Email Mary Waters and I bet she will know.
