Central Texas Medical Center is joining a trend among other Central Texas hospitals by going smoke-free.
The San Marcos hospital will make its entire campus smoke-free among employees, patients and visitors, staring June 1. The hospital will also run a six-week program to help current smokers quit, from May 8 through June 12.
The Seton Family of Hospitals and St. David’s HealthCare hospitals have also started smoke-free policies on their campuses within the past several months.
CTMC, which is part of the Adventist Health System, names the effort to go smoke-free as part of the system’s “creation health” initiative, a faith-based movement that focuses on good health.
