LBJ Museum of San Marcos Seeks Golfers, Sponsors For Annual Golf Tournament

Organizers of the sixth annual Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum of San Marcos Golf Tournament are seeking sponsors and golfers to compete in the Saturday, June 7, 2008, tournament to be held at the Quicksand course at Woodcreek in Wimberley.

LBJ Museum Board member Steve Searle of Ozona Bank is heading up this year’s event, with the assistance of Museum Director Scott Jordan.

Last year’s tournament raised more than $5,000 for the museum. Proceeds from the golf tournament sponsorships and entry fees benefit the non-profit museum that focuses in part on the 36th U.S. President’s days in San Marcos at what is now Texas State University-San Marcos where he graduated with a teaching certificate in 1930. The museum, located on the square in downtown San Marcos, opened its doors to the public in December 2006.

According to Searle, sponsorships are available at three levels – $1,000 for gold, $500 for silver and $150 for hole sponsors. The cost for individual golfers is $70 each, which includes green fees, golf carts and lunch. Searle said prizes and raffle items – including both merchandise and gift certificates – are also needed for the tournament.

Additional information on the golf tournament may be obtained by calling Searle at 512-754-2611 or 512-787-4258 or by email at or by contacting Jordan at 353-3300 or by e-mail at

On-site registration opens at 7 a.m. on June 7 with golfers facing a 8 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament will follow the four-person Florida Scramble format. Trophies will be awarded for each winning team member and prizes will be given for “closest to the pin” and longest drive. Golfers will also have a shot a door prizes and what is predicted to be a great lunch. Entry deadline is May 25, 2008.

The museum is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. To arrange special tours or for more information on the museum, call 512-353-3300.
