KATY — It was not a pretty sight as the Bobcat team that has dismantled opposition all year fell apart to the most unlikely foe in the first round of the Southland Conference tournament.

Nathan Smith, a Texas State junior from Austin said, “Unbelievable. This is not the team we have seen play all season. Who would have thought we would have given up 100 points tonight.” He added, “It was just one of those nights, everything went their way.”

2nd Half 01:08 – Islanders put up 101 as Ekworomadu is pulled from the game.

2nd Half 01:15 – Corpus 99 – Ekworomadu 37

2nd Half 01:31 – The only mystery remaining is whether Corpus will hit 100 and how many points Ekworomadu will finish with.

2nd Half 02:04 – Joyce Ekworomadu extends her total to 35 points, but the fans murmur about this being the a choke of colossal proportions for the Bobcat women. Islanders continue to inch toward 100 pts with 96.

2nd Half 02:18 – Corpus continues to roll (94-75.)

2nd Half 03:38 – Corpus Christi continues to turn in the best game of their season (and possibly history) in shooting 70% in the second half and soon to be knocking off the top seed in the Southland Conference.

2nd Half 03:45 – Brooke DeGrate cans a three, but the lead remains 18. (88-70.) The 32 points by Joyce Ekworomadu is her career high.

2nd Half 05:41 – Biggest lead of the night for Corpus (83-59.) Texas State’s largest lead was only two. Ekworomadu continues to work hard in what looks to be her last game (32 pts.)

2nd Half 07:01 – Ekworomadu appears to be the only Bobcat that showed up as she has put up 27 of the Texas State 59 points. The real disappearing act is by the Bobcat defense. They have allowed Corpus to hit over 54% of their shots.

2nd Half 07:18 – Elisa Beagle drops in an easy bucket as Islanders break their high score for the season 79-59. Twenty points down with seven minutes remaining means it will take something amazing to recover the ‘Cats season.

2nd Half 08:23 – Bobcat fans getting back into the spirit trying to will their team to a comeback. Islanders nab an easy layup making the score 77-59.

2nd Half 08:36 – Time slips away as the Islanders are just three points away from their best offensive outing of the season. The Bobcats seem to be pressing too hard and over committing. When they do, the three-pointer is wide open.

2nd Half 09:40 – Texas State bench showing no fire as they hang their heads and watch Corpus Christi score at a pace unlike they have done all season.

2nd Half 10:19 – Bobcat fans, players, bench, coaches, all crying foul on back to back perceived bad calls.

2nd Half 10:42 – Islanders’ biggest lead of the night (68-50) as it appears that the Bobcats will be “one and done” unless they change things drastically fast.

2nd Half 11:45 – Ekworomadu’s three-pointer cuts the lead to 12 (62-50.) Corpus Christi has tied the most points they have scored against the Bobcat’s in their two previous games.

2nd Half 12:50 – Corpus is playing inspired ball as they can another three-pointer making the lead 59-45. Kim Cessna responds with a layup, but Bobcats cannot seem to find an answer for the Islanders’ shooting.

2nd Half 14:48 – Bobcat fans sit stunned as their team, the regular season champions are in danger of ending their season. Lumberjacks and Cardinals fans add to the chorus cheering against Texas State.

2nd Half 16:36 – Elisa Beagle takes a hard fall and gets up holder the bridge of her nose, but Islanders continue to score. Ashley Cole bounces one around the bucket and the lead falls to 7 for Corpus. Islanders’ Green responds with a 3.

2nd Half 16:49 – Ashley Cole cuts the lead to single digits with a jumper. (48-39 Corpus) Texas State is not ready to give up just yet.

2nd Half 17:26 – Marie Moser completes a three-point play to cut the lead to 11 (48-37.)

2nd Half 18:36 – Texas State misses their first two shots of the half and Corpus Christi continues to shoot the lights out with back to back threes. 46-31 Corpus

HALFTIME – Bobcat’s miss a shot at the buzzer, and head into the locker down by ten points to the lowest seed in the tournament. 41-31

1st Half 00:22 – Ryan Bradford cans a beautiful jumpshot to bring the lead down to 8 (39-31.) Islanders respond with two more points.

1st Half 02:00 – Beagle continues to dominate the paint scoring her 11th point. Ekworomadu has quietly put up 13 in the half.

1st Half 02:40 – Victoria Davis hits a layup, but lead stays 1o points in Corpus’ favor (32-22.) Elisa Beagle is fouled hard driving inside, making the bucket and the ensuing layup (35-22 Corpus)

1st Half 03:20 – Stephen F. Austin and Lamar fans starting to trickle in as their game will follow this one.

1st Half 03:42 – Texas State fans are livid and letting the referees hear about the perceived disparity in foul calls.

1st Half 04:10 – Texas State still struggling to hit their shots 31.8%, while Corpus has improved to 47.1%. Corpus lead increases to 10 (30-20)

1st Half 05:12 – Defensive pressure by the Bobcats forces a shot clock violation for Corpus.

1st Half 05:42 – Joyce Ekworomadu finishes a fast break with a layup making the score 26-20 Islanders.

1st Half 06:52 – Jade Davis sinks the first three-pointer for the Islanders and they extend their lead to 23-18 – she follows that shot with her second three taking the lead to 8 points (26-18.)

1st Half 07:45 – Islanders regain the lead. Texas State continues to shoot poorly despite rather lackluster defense by the Islanders. Corpus continues to get offensive rebounds that lead to most of their points.

1st Half 8:54 – Joyce Ekworomadu hits a layup to give the ‘Cats their first lead of the game 18-16. Adrienne Scott answers by hitting a bucket for the Islanders (18-18)

1st Half 10:40 – Both teams are shooting horribly from the field (Corpus 38.5% – Texas State 26.7%) as the Bobcats tie the score 16-16.

1st Half 11:24 – Hustle is the key ingredient for the Islanders as they are substituting much more often and relying on fresh legs to overcome and difference in skill levels.

1st Half 12:47 – Victoria Davis is mauled on a drive and heads to the free throw line for two. She hits one. The Islanders seems to be dominating off the glass at this point in the game.

1st Half 13:36 – Kim Cessna’s three pointer cuts the Islander lead to two (12-10.)

1st Half 14:07 – Brittany Wilson fouls Adrienne Scott on the shot and sends her to the line for two buckets.

1st Half 14:57 – Joyce Ekworomadu’s finger roll at the buzzer makes the CC lead 10-7.

1st Half 15:40 – After Aimee Hilburn hits the floor hard for the third time in the game, she is called for her second foul. Corpus continues to shoot poorly from the field, but second chance shots put them up 8-2. Ashley Cole answers with a three for Texas State to cut the lead to 8-5 Islanders.

1st Half 16:50 – Both teams come out a bit sloppy, but after settling down, Corpus takes a 6-2 lead.

1st Half 20:00 – CC won the tip but cannot connect on the bucket.

These two teams met earlier this year with Texas State winning both, 78-62 at home, and 73-52 on the road.

5:54 PM – National Anthem and team introductions out of the way, the game is about to begin. From this point, I will not be listing the time of day but time remaining in the game/half.

5:40 PM – The Texas State Bobcat Band is warming up the crowd and rocking out the Merrell Center. The ‘Cats cheering section is filling up fast while the Islanders’ section has only a smattering of fans.
