Honors continue to pile up for Texas State women's sports

Softball Honors 

FRISCO – Texas State swept the softball Southland Conference players of the week awards. Leah Boatright was named the Hitter of the Week and Ragan Blake was named the Pitcher of the Week.

This is the first honor for Boatright, the sophomore first baseman from Baytown. She is the first Bobcat to win Hitter of the Week honors since April 3, 2006. Blake, a senior from Missouri City wins her fifth award. For the week, Boatright hit a 2 run home run in the bottom of the 9th to win the 1st game of a double header against Texas Arlington. She followed that up with a game winning RBI double in the in the 8th inning to win game two. She finished the week with a .421 average. She also became the first softball player in Division I to have two walk off game winning hits on the same day. Blake picked up four of Texas State’s six wins last week. She also pitched a pair of shutouts against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Blake finished the week with a 4-0 record and 1.66 ERA, striking out 24 in 25.1 innings of work.

Texas State finished with a 6-0 record last week. They swept their home series against Texas-Arlington and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to improve their overall record to 12-9.

Basketball Honors

FRISCO — The Southland Conference announced that Texas State’s Ashley Cole was the women’s basketball player of the week on Monday.  This was her first and the team’s third award of the 2007-08 season.

Cole, the junior guard from Port Arthur Texas came off the bench in both of Texas State’s wins last week and had game highs in scoring both times.  She had season highs of 24 points and 31 minutes against Stephen F. Austin in the first game of the week.  The 24 points was also her career high.  In her second game of the week, Cole broke her two day old career high in scoring at Sam Houston with 28 points in 23 minutes. Ashley shot over 60% for the week and missed only one of her 11 free throw attempts.

For the season Cole averages 18.9 minutes, shoots 50% from the field, 30.4% from 3-point land and 78.8% from the free throw line.  She also averages 4.2 rebounds per game and 11.7 points per game.  In conference play, she ranks 14th in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game, 5th in field goal % by making 48.9% of her shots and ranks 9th in free throw % by making 81.1% for her foul shots.

The Bobcats’ two wins on the week also clinched the 2007-08 regular season Southland Conference Title for Texas State.
