The city of San Marcos and Texas State University will close University Drive at several intersections and set up bus transportation to the presidential campaign rally for Senator Barack Obama Wednesday night.

The rally will be held at Sewell Park on the Texas State campus. Gates will open at 7 p.m. and Senator Obama is expected to arrive around 9 p.m. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, University Drive will be closed to traffic at C.M. Allen Parkway, Charles Austin Drive and at Ed J.L. Green on Sessom Drive. City Park will be closed to the public at 12 noon Wednesday.

Bus transportation will run from the Bobcat Village commuter lot and the front lot of Bobcat Stadium. There may be alterations to some bus routes at Texas State University during the day, but buses will run as close to schedule as possible.

Other information to note:

  1. Leave purses, bags and backpacks at home. Participants will be screened through metal detectors and any bags will be searched, slowing access to the event
  2. No weapons of any kind are allowed, including knives or pepper spray
  3. No lawn chairs are allowed
  4. Cameras and cell phones are allowed.

Limited parking for credentialed media will be provided at J.C. Kellam parking lot. Credentialing must be obtained through the Obama campaign.
