Seeking Opportunities, Achieving Results (SOAR) will hold its third annual San Marcos Education Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the San Marcos Conference Center on Oct. 9. Donations are being solicited from area businesses for prizes and volunteer support.

HH Fitness proprietor Heath Herrera has created an event to supply healthy exercise while collecting school supplies for needy students. Herrera is offering a free workout to anyone who kicks in $20 for school supplies.

July was proclaimed "Early Literacy Month" by the City of San Marcos in recognition and support of the organizations that have initiated a book drive to collect books for 1,700 area children.

The Center for P-16 Initiatives at Texas State is sponsoring an the Early Readers Become Leaders book drive in cooperation with Seeking Opportunities Achieving Results (SOAR). The drive will take place in July.

The San Marcos CISD Board of Trustees joined Seeking Opportunities, Achieving Results (SOAR) in an early literacy campaign at the school board meeting this week. The 2010 SOAR campaign is called "Early Readers Become Leaders."
