DNA advances break murder case after 35 years of false starts

After more than 34 years of trying to solve the 1975 murder of Sheryl Ann Norris in San Marcos, a national DNA database gave local law enforcement a glimmer of hope this April. By September, law enforcement had a suspect. Now, 57-year-old Willie Roy Jenkins is being extradited from California to face a capital murder charge.

California man indicted in 1975 San Marcos murder

A Hays County Grand Jury indicted a 57-year-old California man last Friday in the 1975 murder of Sheryl Ann Norris. Willie Roy Jenkins was incarcerated in Fresno, CA, and is being extradited to San Marcos for trial.

Richard Perez, Jr., a 22-year-old San Marcos man, was sentenced to life in prison after a Hays County jury found him guilty in the death of his girlfriend's six-month-old son.
