Bid to ease testing in lower grades comes with caveat

Despite sharply reducing state testing requirements for Texas high school students, the 83rd Legislature brought only conditional relief from high-stakes exams for students in lower grades, who take a total of 17 state tests before going to high school.

San Marcos CISD meets federal standards; three campuses do not

San Marcos CISD as a whole and a six of its campuses met the federal government's yearly academic progress standard based on standardized test scores. Two elementary schools and San Marcos High School fell short.
