The Wimberley Players open their 2011 season with the Tony Award winning play “The Heiress” Friday. The play, directed by Robert FitzGerald, is an adaption by Ruth and Augustus Goetz of the Henry James novel “Washington Square.”
Crockett Elementary School Principal Rick LaBuhn had an unusual Valentine’s Day date with a pig named Wiggles last week. The “kiss” attempt took place in the afternoon in front of a full assembly of 600 students.
The San Marcos Public Library, 625 East Hopkins Street, invites children ages five and older and their families to make an unusual craft at 10 a.m. Saturday. The one-of-a-kind crafting event will feature Fullbright scholar Nita Novianti explaining how to make “Kuda Lumping,” also called trance horse or dancing horse.

Plenty of Texans won Grammy awards at the 53rd annual ceremony on Sunday but the winners of the Best Latin Rock, Alternative or Urban Album of the Year was Grupo Fantasma, group many San Marcians have seen numerous times at the Triple Crown or Bar One41. The ten-piece band won for its release “El Existential.”

Randall Osborne, a professor of psychology at Texas State, will be the next speaker in San Marcos Academy’s (SMA) Distinguished Lecture Series Tuesday afternoon. The lecture, “Forensic Psychology: It May Not be CSI, But it is Still Pretty Interesting!” will take place on the academy’s campus at the school library at 2 p.m. The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend.
The Wittliff Collections at Texas State recently acquired a collection of correspondence belonging to Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and Academy Award nominated actor Sam Shepard.
