If Tim Burton is more your style than Frosty the Snowman, you will rejoice at the Texas State Department of Theatre and Dance’s performance of “A Monster Carol.” This family-friendly holiday fable is as amusing as it is unusual.
Vincent’s House of Wax is your ordinary wax museum filled statues of scary monsters. Well, it’s ordinary during the day, but not so ordinary when the wax figures come to life. Think “Night at the Museum,” narrated by Vincent Price and you’ll get the general drift, except for one seasonal difference. These enlivened figures will experience a singularly odd and very funny version of Dickens’ holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol.”
The play, written and directed by Dwight Markus, is a comedy for all holidays when Christmas meets Halloween.
Performances for “A Monster Carol” will take place at the main stage of the Theatre Center on the Texas State campus. On Dec. 12-13 there will be shows at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. On Dec. 14-15, the performances will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for general admission and $5 with Texas State ID or with a Monster Coupon.
