STAFF REPORT
In honor of both the recently celebrated Texas Independence Day (March 2) and the upcoming Texas Public Schools Week (March 15-19), San Marcos Masonic Lodge No. 342 presented Texas Flags to San Marcos CISD elementary schools. The flags had originally flown over the Texas state capitol building.
Lodge Master Scott Johnson emceed the event and was assisted with the flag presentations by lodge member Nick Unger.
“The members of the San Marcos Lodge are pleased to be able to continue in this effort to assist our public schools and maintain our long term commitment to public education in Texas,” Johnson told the students.
The audience of students, administrators and Masons were treated to a student choir that sang a medley of Texas-themed songs.
The Masonic Lodges of Texas established Texas Public Schools Week in 1950. Originally set as any week in March, it can now take place in any week the school’s district chooses. San Marcos CISD selected March 15-19.
