Texas State University will host a scholarly symposium on the works and career of Sandra Cisneros on Saturday, April 29 at The Wittliff Collections.
The symposium celebrates the opening of the Sandra Cisneros archive at The Wittliff Collections. The symposium will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Alkek Library.
The Wittliff Collections will also host a reading by Cisneros and a conversation between her and fellow San Antonio author John Phillip Santos at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30. Both public events are free.
Speakers from universities across the country will deliver lectures throughout the day. Participants include Norma Alarcón from the University of California-Berkeley; Tey Marianna Nunn from the National Hispanic Cultural Center; and Laurie Ann Guerrero, the poet laureate of Texas.
Sponsors for the event are the Therese Kayser Lindsey Endowment, the Center for Gender and Diversity Studies, the College of Applied Arts, the College of Fine Arts and Communication, the College of Liberal Arts and the English, sociology and history departments.
