San Marcos Mercury | Local News from San Marcos and Hays County, Texas

The northbound McCarty Lane exit ramp and southbound Centerpoint Road exit ramp will be closed 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 to accommodate increased traffic at the outlet malls during sales tax-free weekend.

Dynamic signs on the interstate will notify drivers of the closed exit ramps.

This year the newly constructed Centerpoint Road traffic signal with countdown pedestrian signals and audible push buttons will make it safer and easier for visitors to cross between the two outlet malls.

The purpose of these ramp closures is to prevent traffic from backing onto the Interstate 35 main lanes. Before the city began this tax-free weekend traffic control plan 10 years ago, traffic would back up on the interstate causing significant delays.
