Interstate 35 — all main lanes in both directions — will be closed nightly starting this weekend for demolition of the old Yarrington Road overpass in northern San Marcos and southern Kyle.

i-35-corridor-news-Austin-p1E-350x200Workers will take down the old bridge incrementally, one segment each night for four consecutive nights. North- and south-bound traffic will be diverted to the access roads between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning Sunday night, Feb. 7 through Thursday morning, Feb. 11.

The $15.7 million infrastructure project includes replacing an existing narrow, two-lane overpass with one wide enough to include sidewalks and north- and south-bound turnaround lanes. The project also includes installation of traffic signals at Yarrington Road’s intersections with the north- and south-bound access roads.

New York-based OHL USA Inc., the Texas Department of Transportation’s construction contractor, began work in mid-June 2014. The project is scheduled for completion by June.

Detour ahead

All six main lanes of Interstate 35 will be closed nightly for construction Feb. 7-11 in northern San Marcos and southern Kyle.

Northbound Interstate 46 traffic will exit at ramp No. 210 (Yarrington Road) and use the frontage road through the Yarrington Road intersection. Traffic will be able to re-enter the northbound main lanes at the entrance ramp immediately north of Yarrington Road.

Southbound Interstate 35 traffic will exit at ramp No. 210 (Yarrington Road) and utilize the frontage road through the Yarrington Road intersection. Traffic will be able to re=-enter the soutbound main lanes at the entrance ramp immediately north of the Blanco River turnaround.
