12:04 p.m. SATURDAY, JAN. 9: Kyle police have identified the man who died on Thursday when his car was struck while waiting at a stop sign as Steve Vasquez, a 33-year-old Kyle resident.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, the intersection of Burleson Road with the Interstate 35 access road. His wife, 34-year-old Stephanie Vasquez, was taken to University Medical Center Breckenridge in Austin with what her family characterized as serious injuries.

At about 8 p.m. Jan. 7, a 2013 grey Dodge Avenger drive by Jarred Brady Farmer, a 22-year-old Buda resident, was traveling southbound on the access road when it was struck by a 2014 Toyota Corolla drive by Hallie Sabot, a 40-year-old Kyle resident. The Avenger was pushed into the Vasquez’s 2003 Lexus IS 300.

Farmer was also transferred to Brackenridge with unspecified injuries. The driver of the Corolla is reported to be uninjured.

Police will close a segment of the access road at City Lights Drive early next week as part of their ongoing investigation into the collision.


KYLE — Police are investigating a car wreck that killed a man in Kyle this evening on the southbound Interstate 35 access road at Burleson Road.

At about 8 p.m., a vehicle was turning right off the access road onto Burleson when it was struck behind by a second vehicle. The force of the impact caused the first vehicle to strike a third vehicle stopped at the intersection.

The man driving the third vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and his female passenger was taken to University Medical Center Breckenridge in Austin with unspecified injuries. The man driving the first vehicle was also taken to Breckenridge.

Kyle police have not yet released the names of the dead and injured.
