San Marcos police have arrested a man accused of setting fires in two local restaurants on Monday.
James David Burleigh, 28, is charged with three counts of arson, second-degree felonies punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fines of up to $10,000 per offense. He is being held at the Hays County jail.
The San Marcos Marshals Office identified him as a suspect in the setting of a fire at the Subway restaurant, 1404 Clarewood Dr. near Texas 80 in San Marcos and two fires at the nearby Raising Cane’s restaurant the afternoon of Nov. 16. He was arrested about 4 p.m. the same day.
Fire Marshal Ken Bell credits quick action by the staff of both restaurants in preventing the fires from spreading outside of the men’s rooms where they were lit. Both restaurants were occupied at the time of the fires, but no one was injured.
If convicted, Burleigh faces a between two to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000 for each charge.Email | Print
