The Federal Emergency Management Agency is hosting an open house later this month to discuss newly updated floodplain maps with property owners and residents in San Marcos and elsewhere in Hays County.

The come-and-go event will be held 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the San Marcos City Park Recreational Hall, 170 Charles Austin Drive. The open house will be held within days of six-month anniversary of the Memorial Day weekend floods that devastated homes and businesses near the Blanco River in Hays and three other counties.

The new set of maps show the elevation at which FEMA officials says homes substantially damaged by the historic flood should be rebuilt. The maps were drawn with data compiled by the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, the State of Texas, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
