A San Marcos man was fatally shot early Friday morning in what witnesses say was a narcotics deal gone bad.

San Marcos police officers found Issac Olvera, 21, shot in the abdomen at 2:29 a.m. when they responded to a reported shooting at a residence on the 1300 block of Thorpe Lane.

Officers administered first aid until EMS arrived a short time later. Olvera’s condition worsened while en route to University Medical Center-Brackenridge hospital, and he was instead transported to Seton-Kyle where he died of his injuries.

Olvera was able to provide a suspect’s name to officers before he was transported by EMS.

Multiple witnesses on scene report that a narcotics deal was taking place at the time of the shooting. Three individuals, including the shooter, fled the scene.  Detectives are working to fully identify those individuals.

Police have no information to suggest that the public is in danger from the shooter, and officers continue to investigate.
