The city of San Marcos has been designated a “Film Friendly Community” by the Texas Film Commission, joining a long list of cities in Texas that support artistic expression on the silver screen.

“San Marcos is an excellent backdrop for films, televisions shows and music videos. Our community has provided shooting locations for the Academy Award Winning film ‘Boyhood’ and the television show ‘American Crime,’ which took home an Emmy just last night,” said Kristi Wyatt, the city’s communications and intergovernmental relations director. “Our beautiful downtown and pristine river brings filmmakers here, but this designations gives us the tools and resources we need to attract even more projects and accommodate them once they get here.”

The Film Friendly Texas Program provides training and ongoing guidance on how communities can effectively deal with on-location filming, as well as put their best foot forward in marketing their resources. According to the Texas Film Commission, certification in the Film Friendly Texas program sends a message to filmmakers that a city is serious about attracting their business.

As part of the Film Friendly certification program, the city of San Marcos has adopted filming guidelines for potential film projects. The policy and application can be found online here.
