The city will hold a remembrance ceremony to commemorate the heroes and victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at San Marcos City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins St.
Mayor Daniel Guerrero will deliver a welcome message followed by remarks from council member Jude Prather, elected by his colleagues as mayor pro temp ore.
In a solemn tradition observed now for 14 years, the San Marcos Fire Department’s honor guard will raise the flag that flew over city hall the morning of the attacks. Firefighter Katie Kirk will singe the national anthem, joined by the San Marcos Fire Department Bagpipers.
The historical fire bell will then be tolled in memory of first-responders who died in New York and Washington. To conclude the observance, the public is invited to place flowers in a memorial wreath on the steps of City Hall.
