When: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21
Where [1]: Dunbar Park, 801 W. MLK Drive, San Marcos

From city of San Marcos spokesperson Trey Hatt:

San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department is bringing Party in Your Park to Dunbar Park, 801 W. MLK Drive, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21.

Party in Your Park is a family-friendly event that is bringing positive attention to our city’s neighborhood parks four times a year. Residents are invited to enjoy the summer night at one of the city’s best parks before school starts again the following Monday. The action-packed event is free to the public and aims to encourage outdoor activity and use of local parks.

This rotating event visits a different park every three months; past locations include Franklin Square Park, Conway Park, and Paul Pena Park. However, due to its great amenities, size and location, Dunbar Park will have the honor of hosting our “Back-to-School” version every August.

The special event will be the only of the series to show a full-length movie, “Little Big League,” beginning at 8 p.m. “Little Big League” is a 1994 family baseball film about a 12-year-old who suddenly becomes the owner and manager of the Minnesota Twins baseball team. In addition to the movie, there will also be a basketball knock-out contest on the full size court, Gaga Ball, 9 Square in the Air, giant Jenga, yard games, healthy snacks, music and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or folding chairs to sit on.

The next Party in Your Park events are planned for Nov. 13 at Mill Street Park and Feb. 19, 2016 at El Camino Real Park. Party in Your Park would not be possible without the support from the community and our generous sponsor Grande Communications. Volunteers make a huge impact at our events and we are always looking for more! If you are interested in being a sponsor, volunteering with us, or need more information about this event contact Victoria Van de Ryt, Youth Services Coordinator, at 512-393-8249.
