“The Goonies,” the 1985 adventure comedy written by Steven Spielberg, will be featured next in the city of San Marcos’ Movies in Your Park summer outdoor film series.

A nostalgic favorite for children of the 1970s and 1980s, “The Goonies” chronicles the exploits of a group of pre-teens who set out to stop demolition of their homes to make room for a country club expansion and end up chasing the lost-fortune of a 17th century pirate named One-Eyed Willie.

The screening begins at sunset Tuesday, July 21 at San Marcos Plaza Park, 206 N. CM Allen Parkway.

Pre-movie activities begin at 7:30 p.m, sponsored this week by Angel Drops, a San Marcos-based nonprofit organization promoting health and fitness activities for youth and families.

Hosted by the city of San Marcos Parks & Recreation department, the series is sponsored by Grande Communications, Walton Development & Management, The Hitch and Mensor Corp. Concessions are offered by Texas State University’s Association of Recreation Enthusiasts.

The final movie in this summer’s series will be “Dolphin Tale 2” on Tuesday, July 28.
