Central Texas Medical Center has honored 10 new high school graduates from San Marcos, Kyle and Lockhart with $1,000 scholarships. Students were selected based on their academic achievement, community involvement and career goals.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to reward such deserving students with funds that will help them in their upcoming college careers,” said Sam Huenergardt, CTMC’s president and chief executive officer.

Scholarships recipients are:

San Marcos

  • Andres Aparicio, San Marcos High School
  • Jessica Garcia, San Marcos High School
  • Jovanna Gerardo, San Marcos High School
  • Emily Holmes, San Marcos High School
  • Jacob “Jake” McGee, San Marcos High School

Kyle

  • Maria Andrea Alegria, Lehman High School
  • Araceli Rangel, Lehman High School

Lockhart

  • Matthew Overton, Lockhart High School
  • Julissa Trevino, Lockhart High School
  • Katlin Schiefelbein, Lockhart High School

The money can be applied to tuition, books or living expenses at universities, colleges or trade schools. CTMC began its scholarship program for high school students in 1997.

CORRECTION 9:41 a.m. JUNE 25: The headline on an earlier version of this story misstated the total amount by Central Texas Medical Center disbursed this year in scholarships for local high school seniors. The 10 scholarships totaled $10,000, not $100,000
