Second body found in aftermath of Blanco River flood

WIMBERLEY — Emergency workers found a body along the San Marcos River today in Caldwell County, downstream of weekend flooding that destroyed or damaged hundreds of homes in Wimberley and San Marcos.

The body’s discovery brings the number of confirmed dead to two with 13 people confirmed missing. At a press briefing earlier this afternoon, officials said more than 30 people are unaccounted for but emergency management now say all of those have been located.

Damage to Hays County roads and other infrastructure is currently estimated at $4.5 million, emergency management coordinator Kharley Smith told the San Marcos Mercury. Two Blanco River bridges, on Fischer Store Road and Jacob’s Well Road, were destroyed by floodwaters in western Hays County.
