San Marcos Mercury | Local News from San Marcos and Hays County, Texas

San Marcos police investigators have so far been unable to identify an attempted sexual assault suspect captured on a convenience store’s surveillance video two Fridays ago, the night of the alleged attack.

A woman told police that she accepted a ride from a Latino man in his 30s or 40s driving a black, four-door pickup truck as she walked in the 700 block of North LBJ Drive at about 11:30 p.m. May 8.

After stopping to buy beer at a Sac-n-Pac store, 799 N. LBJ Drive, the man started driving in the direction of her home but took a detour and began to grope her, the complaint states. She was able to flee the truck after punching her attacker several times, the complaint states.

The suspect, shown in a screenshot released on Tuesday by the police department’s Criminal Investigations division, was wearing a grayish-colored shirt and jeans. Det. Sandra Spriegel is asking residents who can identify him from the surveillance video to contact her at 512-753-2369 or by email.
