NEW BRAUNFELS — Police have identified the man killed Friday evening while attempting to cross the interstate near the Travel Centers of America truck stop, 4817 Interstate 35.

Manuel Herrera Jr., a 54-year-old Austin resident, was struck by a Chrysler 200 in the northbound main lanes at 9:45 p.m. May 9, said David Ferguson, the New Braunfels Police Department spokesperson. He was identified this morning after his family was notified.

The driver of the passenger car, a 23-year-old New Braunfels man, was treated and released at the collision scene for minor injuries. Police do not expect to file criminal charges against the driver, Ferguson said.

The collision closed northbound Interstate 35 for about three hours Friday while police investigated the accident. Traffic was diverted to the access road with the assistance of the Comal County Sheriff’s office.
