Wimberley, Hill Country Christian seniors among Pedernales Electric scholarship winners

JOHNSON CITY — Wimberley High School senior William Mayhew has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from Pedernales Electric Cooperative. He was one of 14 students from Central Texas who were presented with scholarships totaling $50,000 during a reception last month at the electric cooperative’s headquarters.

“This scholarship will mean fewer hours I have to work and more hours I can spend pursuing academics,” Mayhew said.

Cora Bonham, a senior at Hill Country Christian School in San Marcos, is among the recipients of $5,000 scholarships.

Nearly 200 students applied for the scholarships this year, PEC spokesperson Jeanette Horn said. The scholarship funds can be applied to expenses at any accredited university, junior college, trade or technical school.

“By helping our local students pursue their educational goals, we are investing in their future, as well as the future of the Texas Hill Country,” said Eddie Dauterive, the cooperative’s vice president for member services who presided over the 2015 scholarship committee.

Besides Mayhew and Bonham, scholarship recipients include:

Travis County

Williamson County

Burnett County
