The San Marcos Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association and the San Marcos Police Department are encouraging San Marcos residents to show support for  local law enforcement by putting a blue bulb in their porch lights in May.

The demonstration coincides with National Police Week, scheduled this year May 10-16, and Project Blue Light, a nationwide program to honor police officers who have died in the line of duty.

“Showing a blue light on your porch at night lets our officers know that the community supports them and appreciates their service. It’s a silent but visible reminder to our police officers that our residents have their back,” said John Toeller, the police academy alumni association’s vice president.
