FROM STAFF AND SUBMITTED REPORTS
Interstate 35 traffic will be squeezed to a single southbound lane twice starting Sunday night as construction continues on a new overpass at Yarrington Road in far northern San Marcos. Later in the week, construction will close two northbound I-35 lanes overnight.
The right and center lanes of southbound I-35 will be closed at Yarrington Road from 8 p.m. Sunday, March 1 to 5 a.m. Monday, March 2 and again from 8 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 3. The left and center lanes of northbound I-35 will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 to 5 a.m. Thursday, March 5 if weather does not again delay work.
The bridge will incorporate traffic signals, sidewalks and north- and south-bound turnaround lanes to accommodate current and future traffic in the area. It is also an integral part of the County’s desire to move all frontage roads from two-way to one-way to improve safety and mobility.
The bridge construction is expected to cost about $12.2 million and be completed in summer of 2016, officials said when ground was broken last August.
