This just in from city spokesperson Kristi Wyatt:

Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured in San Marcos late Monday night.

Earl Edward Clark III, 42, of San Antonio was found deceased with multiple gunshot wounds in a common area of an apartment complex in the 500 block of Linda Lane. Another person with Clark was found shot multiple times with life-threatening injuries.

The injured victim identified as Jay Ryan Guerrero, 19 , also from San Antonio, was transported to a Central Texas trauma hospital. Police are not releasing the name of the hospital for security reasons.

Police responded to a 911 call of shots fired and reports by residents of the Townwood Apartment complex of a person lying on the ground at approximately 11:14 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12. The victims of this shooting are not residents of the complex.

The San Marcos Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the shooting and asks that anyone who may have witnessed events prior to the shooting or have any information related to the investigation to contact CID immediately at 512.753.2300.

“This does not appear to be a random incident,” said Assistant Chief of Police Bob Klett. “The investigation is in its early stages, but information developed at this point does not indicate a threat to the safety of the general public.”

  1. This story was last updated on 1/13. Do you have any additional information? Why were the victims at an apartment complex where they didn’t live? Any clues about the shooter(s)? Has SMPD picked up any suspects? Gang related? This story has serious gaps. What about the people who live and work in the Linda Lane area? How can they feel safe when these shooter(s) are, no doubt, still at large. Please get with the SMPD for updates ASAP. Your community wants to know.
