Oceans Healthcare, a Lake Charles, La.-based owner and operator of adult and geriatric mental health facilities, plans to build a 24-bed acute psychiatric care hospital in San Marcos, company executives announced today.
Company officials said they will convert the former World Gym at 1106 N. Interstate 35 into the 20,000-square-foot Oceans Behavioral Hospital San Marcos, its eighth facility in Texas. The expansion is financed by SRP Medical, a Dallas-based real estate and development investment firm, company officials told the San Marcos Mercury.
The regional facility will offer inpatient and outpatient psychiatric treatment and intensive therapeutic intervention to adult and senior patients in Hays and Caldwell counties as well as retiree enclaves in Kerrville and Fredericksburg, said Jason Reed, Oceans Healthcare’s chairman and founder.
The hospital is scheduled to open in April 2015, Reed said.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing a new Oceans hospital to the Central Texas area that will provide the growing senior community in the region with specialized behavioral health services,” Reed said.
Hays County’s population of people older than 55 is projected to increase 120 percent over the next five years, said Scott Wilson, the managing principal of SRP Medical. Formerly part of The Staubach Co., SRP Medical specializes in healthcare-related properties.
Oceans Healthcare maintains eight senior-oriented psychiatric hospitals in Louisiana and seven in Texas of which locations in Fort Worth and Plano are the nearest to the Central Texas Interstate 35 corridor.
