San Marcos police are investigating an auto-pedestrian collision Tuesday afternoon that claimed the life of a Lockhart man on Interstate 35.
Abner Dean Branch Jr., 52, was on the right shoulder of the southbound Interstate 35 railroad overpass between Aquarena Springs Drive and Texas 80 when he was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling in the far right traffic lane. Thursday is his birthday, according to public records.
Emergency responders were called at 1:51 p.m. and arrived six minutes later. Branch was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Margie Hernandez. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the collision and police issued no citations.
Traffic was reduced to one lane southbound for more than an hour while emergency responders cleared the scene.
The San Marcos Police Department Collision Investigation Team, San Marcos Fire Department, San Marcos/Hays County EMS and the Texas Department of Public Safety state troopers responded to call.
