DRIPPING SPRINGS — Matthew W. McCoy, 46-year-old Dripping Springs resident, died on Friday, July 25 after a lengthy battle with Multiple myeloma and other illnesses. He was born on November 24, 1967.
“Through Matt’s quick wit, positive attitude and caring nature, he truly touched and impacted many lives over the years. He put others’ needs before his own and didn’t dwell on health issues and the pain he was personally facing. His sense of humor and ‘McCoy’ stories could always be counted on to lighten the mood and elicit laughter from all,” family members wrote in his official obituary.
McCoy is survived by his wife, Trish McCoy, to whom he was married for 22 years, daughter Ashleigh McCoy and son Josh McCoy. He is also survived by sister Michelle Reed Bassett and her husband, Kevin; brother Dave McCoy and his wife, Laura; sister Raegan McCoy; and half-sisters Tiffany McCoy, Tara McCoy and Traci McCoy.
In addition, McCoy also leaves behind his father- and mother-in-law, Marion Copes and Barbara Copes; sister-in-law Elisa McCoy; sister-in-law Susan Tyler and her husband, James Tyler; and 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James McCoy and Ann Stewart; brother Michael McCoy; and father-in-law Howard Horner.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at the Dripping Springs United Methodist Church, 28900 Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs. A celebration of McCoy’s life will be held 3 p.m. at the church’s fellowship hall following visitation.
