Santos Espinoza, Sr., a 65-year-old San Marcos resident, died on Saturday, July 12 in Austin. He was born October 2, 1948 in San Marcos to Julio and Melania (Neira) Espinoza.

After retiring from the University of Texas at Austin, Santos worked for First Baptist Church in San Marcos. He is remembered as “a very loving man, a great father, role model and the life of the party,” according to his official obituary.

Santos is survived by his son, Santos Espinoza Jr.; his daughter, Chrissy Regalado, and her husband, Ricky; and by the mother of his children, Yvonne Espinoza. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Nariya Espinoza, Angelica Urrutia, Angelo Espinoza, Nathan Rodriguez, Sevy Urrutia, Cristobal Espinoza and Diane Regalado.

Santos also leaves behind his mother, Melanie Espinoza, three brothers and two sisters: Manuel Espinoza and his wife, Antonia; Isabel Quintilla and her husband, Henry; David Espinoza and his wife, Jenny; Gilbert Espinoza and his wife, Frances; and Mary Jane Urrutia and her husband, Steven.

Services were held 3 p.m. Friday, July 18 at Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Old Ranch Road 12 in San Marcos.
