The San Marcos Fire Department put out a small fire at the Franklin Square Townhomes that caused minor damage Thursday morning. No one was injured.

Occupants and construction workers reported smoke coming from the attic of one of the townhomes at 803 Old Ranch Road 12 at 9:32 a.m., said Trey Hatt, the city’s spokesperson. Fire crews arrived at 9:36 a.m. and extinguished the fire by 9:50 a.m. Fire crews cleared the scene at 11:30 a.m., Hatt said.

The San Marcos Police Department closed Old Ranch Road 12 between Lindsey and Holland streets and closed Blanco Street at Hansen Street for about an hour as firefighters secured and cleared the scene. The tenants of the affected townhome were evacuated, but no other evacuations were required.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
