Robert James Brooks, a 77-year-old San Marcos resident, died on Thursday, June 19. He was born on October 13, 1936 in St. Augustine, Fla. to Robert James Brooks and Anna Belle York Brooks.
Brooks served for two decades in the U.S. Air Force including an attachment to the Strategic Air Command during the Vietnam war. After his retirement from the military, he worked for 20 more years in civil service.
Brooks is survived by his former wife and best friend, Rose L. Brooks of San Marcos, and three children: Reuben Brooks of San Marcos; Michele Brooks Burleson and her husband, Brian, of San Marcos; and Camille Shaw of Austin. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn Rose and Bailey Rae Tansil of Seguin.
Brooks was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers Reuben Peppers and Leroy Peppers and sisters Gladys McRae and Lula Mae Coley.
Visitation will be held 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Thomason Funeral Home chapel, 2001 Old Ranch Road 12 in San Marcos; recitation of the holy rosary will be begin at 7 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26 at St. John Catholic Church, 624 E. Hopkins St. in San Marcos. The Rev. Victor Mayorga will officiate.
Burial with military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road in San Antonio.Email | Print
