Matt Padgett, a 58-year-old San Marcos resident, died at his home on Saturday, May 10 following a five-year struggle with melanoma. He was born May 25, 1956 in Harlingen to Hugh M. Padgett Jr. and Diane Sowell Padgett.
Padgett served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war and U.S. Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force and the U.S. Merchant Marine until his illness forced him to retire. During his maritime service, Padgett he enjoyed playing the trumpet in ports-of-call around the world, continuing an interest that began as member of the San Marcos High School band.
Padgett is survived by a brother, Robert Padgett of San Marcos, and a sister, Joni Andrews of Austin. He is also survived by cousins and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Christopher Padgett.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday June 25 at the San Marcos City Cemetery, 1001 Old Ranch Road 12 in San Marcos. Arrangements made through Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos.Email | Print
