NEW BRAUNFELS — A 69-year-old New Braunfels man was seriously injured when struck by a pickup truck this morning as he walked along Walzem Mission Road.

The man was taken to University Hospital in San Antonio with “numerous injuries including possible internal injuries and possible broken bones,” New Braunfels police Lt. Craig Christopherson said. New Braunfels police and firefighters were dispatched to the Mission Hills Ranch subdivision at about 7:14 a.m., he said.

Police investigators believe the 33-year-old driver of a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck swerved to miss an animal as he traveled northbound, jumping a curb and striking a utility poll before striking the pedestrian as he stood along a sidewalk, Christopherson said.

Officers do not expect to file charges against the truck’s driver, whose name Christopherson did not release this afternoon.
