BUDA — Alice Ilene Cheatham Sheppard, an 86-year-old Buda resident, died Friday, May 27 in Austin. She was born September 16, 1927 to Walter Carl Cheatham and Allie Cly Francis Cheatham.
She was married to James E. Sheppard on September 21, 1946. A faithful member of the Church of Christ, Sheppard was a teacher, counselor, author and freelance writer. She received a bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University and later a master’s degree in education from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Sheppard is survived by three children: Claudia Kling and her husband, Dwight, of Austin; Phyllis Gonçalves and her husband, Antenor, of Itu, Brazil; and Randal Sheppard and his wife, Sally, of North Richland Hills. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, a brother and a sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, three brothers-in-law and a niece.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Elmwood West Cemetery, Garden of Prayer, 5750 U.S. 277 South in Abilene. Arrangements are made through Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle.
